Great Chefs & Wineries Celebrates Lifehouse’s 60 Years of Service

We are thrilled to share that our 2014 event raised almost $500,000 to benefit the many individuals with developmental disabilities Lifehouse serves. It is because of the generosity and caring of our community that Lifehouse has been able to continue to provide our much needed services for six decades. Thank you!

Heidi Krahling, Nancy Moody photoOn Saturday, April 26, 2014 over 450 guests joined Lifehouse as we celebrated 60 years of service to our community at our 24th Annual Great Chefs & Wineries event held at the beautiful Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company campus in Novato.

The Fabulous Bud E. Luv Trio kept the party swinging as guests mingled in the outdoor tent while dining on an array of small plates expertly prepared by chefs from some of the Bay Area’s finest restaurants under the guidance of Culinary Host Heidi Insalata Krahling. Dinner was accompanied by wine pourings from an impressive lineup of elite wineries, micro-brewed beers, champagne, coffee and martinis mixed by Marin IJ Barfly columnist, Jeff Burkhart.

After dinner, guests gathered in the dining room for the evening’s live entertainment. Lifehouse Board member and parent, Dr. Marsha Treadwell, shared with our guests her family’s experiences with Lifehouse followed by a toast led by Lifehouse Board Chair Stephen Meeker in honor of Lifehouse’s 60th anniversary. As always, the Lifehouse Dancers brought the house to its feet with their energetic performance to The Beatle’s “Twist and Shout.” After a fast-paced live auction with auctioneer, Damon Casatico, the evening closed with a concert featuring Bay Area favorites, Tower of Power.

There are many people to thank who made this year’s event possible beginning with the Lifehouse Board of Directors for their dedication and support of our mission and this event. Our Major Sponsors Brydon Hugo & Parker, Scott and Julie Jones, Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, Brayton Purcell, Allan and Nancy Herzog, Mark and Susan Schatzberg, Giraux Fine Jewelry, Marin Community Foundation, Union Bank, All-American Printing Services, Wine Country Party & Events and Marin Independent Journal represent some of our many generous community supporters. Our Great Chefs Steering Committee, chaired by Julie Jones, and Wine Committee, chaired by Sid Sall, volunteered countless hours over the past year to make this event fabulous.

We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Honorary Chairman Huey Lewis, Culinary Host Heidi Insalata Krahling, Master of Ceremonies Bud E. Luv and our fabulous participating restaurants and wineries.

Stay tuned for the announcement of our next year’s event as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Great Chefs & Wineries! See you next year!

Great Chefs & Wineries…Not Just a Fabulous Party

If you’ve previously attended Great Chefs, you know what a memorable event it is. The tent filled with chefs giving of their time and talents, the wineries sharing their treasure, the amazing array of auction items donated by local businesses throughout the Bay Area and the excellent live entertainment. You may have asked yourself “why has Lifehouse put on this event for 24 years?”

This memorable evening isn’t just a fabulous party; it benefits Lifehouse and the more than 200 individuals with developmental disabilities living in our community the agency serves.

Lifehouse is celebrating 60 years of service!
What began as a parent-led effort in 1954 has blossomed into one of the most respected agencies in the Bay Area. Lifehouse’s goal is to enable each person we serve to live as independently as possible in our community. Our personalized services include:

This brings us back to Great Chefs & Wineries and you, our supporters. The fees Lifehouse receives for our services only cover 90% of our expenses. This event raises over half of the amount our agency must fundraise each year to meet our budget. Your participation at Great Chefs, either by attending, winning an auction item or making a donation to the Gift for Life helps ensure each person Lifehouse serves has the chance to become a more independent, productive and welcome member of our community.

Now more than ever, your support makes a difference!

Last year, thanks to the support of our community, Lifehouse provided 299,708 hours of support services! Ten residents joined our Supported Living Program. Our Teen Recreation Integration Program (TRIP) provided ongoing recreational opportunities for 24 young adults. Over 75 adults participated in our Travel Program. And, our nine houses are well-maintained, providing a place to call home for over 50 individuals. When you give at Great Chefs, you can feel confident that your contribution will directly benefit the people we serve. We are proud to share that 88 cents of each dollar we raise benefits our support services.

This Saturday, as you enjoy the fabulous food and wine at Great Chefs & Wineries, we hope you will also consider joining Lifehouse in our efforts to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities in our community. On behalf of the Lifehouse Board of Directors, the Lifehouse staff, and most importantly, the people we support, we say “Thank You!” We are looking forward to a spectacular event!
