If you’ve previously attended Great Chefs, you know what a memorable event it is. The tent filled with chefs giving of their time and talents, the wineries sharing their treasure, the amazing array of auction items donated by local businesses throughout the Bay Area and the excellent live entertainment. You may have asked yourself “why has Lifehouse put on this event for 24 years?”
This memorable evening isn’t just a fabulous party; it benefits Lifehouse and the more than 200 individuals with developmental disabilities living in our community the agency serves.
Lifehouse is celebrating 60 years of service!
What began as a parent-led effort in 1954 has blossomed into one of the most respected agencies in the Bay Area. Lifehouse’s goal is to enable each person we serve to live as independently as possible in our community. Our personalized services include:
- Supported Living – Enabling individuals to live in their own apartment or home
- Independent Living Homes – Group homes designed to promote independence.
- Intermediate Care Facilities – Group homes staffed to provide intensive care.
- Individual Day Support Services – Individual support services.
- Information & Referrals
- Affordable Housing Advocacy
- Recreation & Vacation Travel for Adults
- Teen Recreation Integration Program
- Specialized services for those on the Autism Spectrum
- In-Home Support for Families
This brings us back to Great Chefs & Wineries and you, our supporters. The fees Lifehouse receives for our services only cover 90% of our expenses. This event raises over half of the amount our agency must fundraise each year to meet our budget. Your participation at Great Chefs, either by attending, winning an auction item or making a donation to the Gift for Life helps ensure each person Lifehouse serves has the chance to become a more independent, productive and welcome member of our community.
Now more than ever, your support makes a difference!
Last year, thanks to the support of our community, Lifehouse provided 299,708 hours of support services! Ten residents joined our Supported Living Program. Our Teen Recreation Integration Program (TRIP) provided ongoing recreational opportunities for 24 young adults. Over 75 adults participated in our Travel Program. And, our nine houses are well-maintained, providing a place to call home for over 50 individuals. When you give at Great Chefs, you can feel confident that your contribution will directly benefit the people we serve. We are proud to share that 88 cents of each dollar we raise benefits our support services.
This Saturday, as you enjoy the fabulous food and wine at Great Chefs & Wineries, we hope you will also consider joining Lifehouse in our efforts to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities in our community.
